Bear Design Competition

Design brief – combining Literacy & Design

Following the success of The Big Hoot (2015) and the Book Bench Project (2016) Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity and creative producers Wild in Art have designed a new art trail for this summer 2017. This year instead of giant books the colourful sculptures will be bears.

We are really excited to be taking part in the Big Sleuth and we have a giant bear sculpture in school just  waiting to be designed and decorated. So now we need your help to create an exciting and original design for our bear. The winning design will be painted or collaged onto our bear which will be displayed as part of the 2017 trail around Birmingham.

For us this project has already started. Combining bears and crime in a GCSE English narrative writing unit , Year 10 students have subverted  the traditional Goldilocks story.  Year 10 creative re-writings of this story are impressive and a selection of extracts from the strongest stories have been chosen for you to use to inspire your bear designs.

You can collect a copy of the sheet from the Library or your form tutor. When designing, consider how the bear would be made using a range of media. Label your design and explain how you would like it to be created eg – painted, photographs, collage, text.

Return your entries to Mrs Sterry (Art) or Mrs Clifford (Graphics) by Tuesday 23rd May, 3.30pm.
