On Monday 9th October a group of twenty year 9, 10 and 12 students were taken to Oxford College at Oxford University to get a feeling for university life. They received a tour of campus and tutorials about the brain as part of ‘the scholars programme’, run by ‘the Brilliant Club’.
‘The trip was very inspirational and it gave me a good insight to university life. Getting to speak to students and teachers allowed us to ask any questions so we can further understand university life and the opportunities it could bring.’
Avneet Sahota – STEM Scholars Student
I’m very grateful that I’ve been selected to be a part of the scholars programme. As a part of this programme I got the amazing chance to visit the University of Oxford. On our visit we were given a tour around the university in which we saw a few of the many libraries they have. They also provided us with a meal which we had in their very grand dining hall that looked very similar to that of the dining hall in Harry Potter! Then as part of the scholars programme we had a PhD tutor, Tom, who talked us through our first tutorial. He explained to us that our final assignment will be about neuroscience, and as part of the first tutorial we learned about the functions of the different parts of the brain. I really enjoyed my visit to the University of Oxford and I’m excited to learn more in my future tutorials.
